DeKalb County Public Library is the recent beneficiary of the Flight Path grant, an educational initiative designed to promote knowledge about bird migration and conservation. Three library branches within the county have each received $500, a fund backed by the STAR Library Network and HHMI Tangled Bank Studios. These entities have joined forces to enhance public awareness through the Spark of Science @ My Library campaign.
Under this grant, the libraries targeted will showcase the documentary "Wild Hope: Building for Birds." Scheduled from October to December, citizens are invited to partake in programs that blend viewing experiences with hands-on activities, such as decorating bird decals—posing a practical measure to prevent bird collisions with windows.
The Flight Path program extends beyond financial support and film screenings. As reported by DeKalb County's official news, the libraries will receive materials to implement the programs, engaging not just the youth but adults who share environment-centric interests.
