CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson of DeKalb County has officially taken a step forward for community safety by naming Dr. Clare Avory as the new Director of the DeKalb Emergency Management Agency. Coming from a solid background of crisis leadership from her time at Louisiana State University, Dr. Avory is now charged with the hefty responsibility of preparing for, responding to, and recovering from a range of emergencies and disasters within DeKalb County.

"Dr. Avory is known for strategic vision and operational innovation," CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson professed. According to the announcement made by the DeKalb County Government. Tapping Dr. Avory's experience in crisis management and emergency preparedness, the County aims to bolster its preparedness for a potential natural or manmade disaster.

With over 20 years of experience, Dr. Avory brings a wealth of expertise to the role. As the former Associate Director of Emergency Preparedness at LSU, she played a vital part in coordinating the university’s response teams across multiple departments, strengthening resilience and interdepartmental cooperation, efforts that earned her well-deserved recognition.

Dr. Avory herself has been upfront about her goals for the county. "Joining DeKalb County is an incredible opportunity, and my focus will be on strengthening interagency coordination, community engagement, and resilience - ensuring that DeKalb is prepared for any and all challenges that may arise," Dr. Avory stated in a release from DeKalb County Government. Her education underpins this pledge, with a doctoral degree specializing in Homeland Security & Emergency Management and a master's degree in Emergency Management.

Her previous roles in law enforcement and emergency services have honed Dr. Avory's skills in disaster response and continuity planning, which are crucial to her new oversight of DeKalb Emergency Management Agency's operations.
