Democratic leaders held a press conference criticizing the Republican-led shutdown and its impact on vulnerable Americans. Clark noted, "Republicans have controlled Washington for 275 days, and we are 22 days into this shutdown," adding, "They always go after those who have already had to sacrifice," according to the Office of the Congresswoman.
They argued that the burden is falling on working families, veterans, and marginalized groups rather than the wealthy or corporations. Clark said, "Those are the people that Republicans expect to get by with less." and emphasized, "it’s never the billionaires. It’s never corporations. It's certainly never themselves," reflecting Democrats’ frustration with the stalemate, as reported by the Office of the Congresswoman.
Democrats are urging Republicans to end the government shutdown and address the health care dispute. Clark said Republicans are focused on “About camera angles and escalators” instead of the shutdown’s effects, and called on them to return to negotiations, stating: “Come to work. Come to D.C. Sit down with us. Negotiate. End this health care crisis and end this shutdown,” as mentioned by the Office of the Congresswoman.
