DICK'S Sporting Goods is set to make a splash in Glendale with the grand opening of its first Arizona House of Sport location. The big reveal is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. Friday, October 17, bringing a new dimension to the retail experience near Loop 101 and Maryland Avenue. The space is more than just a place to buy sporting goods—it's an immersive destination for sports enthusiasts to shop, play, and engage, according to the city of Glendale's announcement.
The new venture spans over 100,000 square feet and aims to offer something for everyone. Beyond browsing the latest gear and apparel, customers can test products right in the store. Features include a rock-climbing wall, outdoor track and field, golf hitting bays, and a multi-sport HitTrax cage with real-time performance analytics. The location is not just a store but a venue for community events and training, embracing a hands-on approach to the retail experience.
DICK'S is kicking off the opening with a weekend of festivities, including giveaways, athlete appearances, and interactive activities suited for all ages. The early birds have a chance to score, with the first 100 adults in line each morning receiving a mystery gift card. Meanwhile, the first 300 guests aged 10 and up can grab a free 30-ounce Stanley Quencher. For the younger sports fans, the first 100 kids under 18 on each day will snag a DSG soccer ball.
Celebrity athletes will grace the store, with NBA star Jalen Green appearing on Saturday and MLB All-Star Corbin Carroll on Sunday. Both stars are set to sign autographs from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., and, wristbands for the sessions will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis at the store's opening. DICK'S ensures that fans can get an official player card for signatures, underlining the company's emphasis on creating personal connections with these events.
The Glendale opening marks DICK'S first foray into the Arizona market with the House of Sport concept and is part of a larger expansion plan. The company has set its sights on opening additional locations nationwide, targeting 16 new facilities in 2025 and eyeing a long-term goal of 75 to 100 stores by 2027. Mayor Jerry P. Weiers took pride in this development, stating, "What an exciting moment for Glendale and the entire state of Arizona," noting the city's success in attracting experiential retail opportunities and producing great experiences for residents and visitors.
Since first launching the House of Sport concept in 2021, DICK'S Sporting Goods has been redefining sports retail by marrying product offerings with passion and interactive customer experiences. As the chain expands its footprint across the country, it strives to transform the traditional sporting goods store into a community-centered hub where sports, community, and experience are all part of the purchase.
