Luis Cruz-Burgos appeared in Sheboygan County Court on charges of first-degree reckless homicide in the death of Canadian tourist Giovanni Robinson. The incident reportedly followed a dispute over a ride fare after Robinson’s group celebrated a hole-in-one at a local bar, according to WISN.
During a preliminary hearing, Officer Sung Oetzel testified about the investigation and arrest, which were supported by witness statements and surveillance footage. Cruz-Burgos initially denied involvement but later changed his account when questioned.
FOX 11 News stated that Robinson, a visitor from Ontario, was killed on September 24 after he and friends sought transportation from Cruz-Burgos, who was working as a DoorDash driver. Court records show Cruz-Burgos has been bound over for trial, with an arraignment scheduled for November 17.
According to TMJ4, the defense raised concerns about possible language barriers during the investigation, questioning how officers interpreted Cruz-Burgos’ Spanish statements. Police have not recovered a firearm linked to the shooting, which remains under investigation.
