A Dorchester man has been detained without bail and is awaiting a dangerousness hearing after being implicated as the getaway driver in a shooting that caused grave injuries, leaving a woman paralyzed. Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden has announced the charges and the arraignment of Devante Stinson, 23, that took place last Thursday in Roxbury BMC.

Stinson faces multiple charges, including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, and illegal firearm possession. Following the events earlier this month, a woman was found paralyzed and a restaurant endured considerable damage from the gunfire. Judge Lisa Ann Grant ordered Stinson held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing set for October 29, as reported by the Suffolk District Attorney's Office.

On October 8 at around 4:09 p.m., Boston police came to 258 Dudley Street after receiving reports of a shooting. They found a 25-year-old female victim with a life-altering gunshot wound to her back. The onslaught not only harmed the woman but also left a nearby restaurant and a vehicle marked by bullets, with police recovering approximately 20 spent 9mm Luger shell casings at the scene. The victim, who had been returning from a doctor's appointment, was transported to a local hospital; she now faces the stark reality of life without movement from the waist down.

Investigators pieced together the sequence of events utilizing a network of surveillance footage. Video evidence from before, during, and after the incident show a gray Hyundai sedan at the scene, the shooter exiting and entering the vehicle, and the distressing moments of the actual shooting. The footage also revealed the intended target, who was standing outside the restaurant but retreat inside once the shooter made his approach. According to the Suffolk District Attorney's Office, "My heart goes out to this innocent victim, who was doing nothing more than walking from a doctor’s appointment on a weekday afternoon before getting hit by a bullet meant for someone else."

An arrest warrant for the actual shooter has been issued, as law enforcement continues to seek justice for the victim and community safety.
