The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is probing a tragic incident in Douglas County where a domestic dispute resulted in the shooting death of a woman by her husband, who was subsequently wounded by police. As reported by FOX 5 Atlanta, officers were summoned to the residence on Littlebrook Way close to 9:30 p.m. last Saturday. Upon arrival, they discovered Sabrina Walker, 56, deceased in the front yard, and her husband, Volanta Lejuan Walker, 51, armed with a firearm.
The situation escalated when Volanta allegedly pointed the gun at the officers, who, in response, shot him. The GBI affirmed that the officers provided first aid until emergency medical services transported Walker to the hospital. While no officers sustained injuries during the encounter, the GBI's ongoing investigation follows standard procedures for officer-involved shootings in Georgia.
Family members have revealed to FOX 5 Atlanta that Sabrina and Volanta were married less than a year and that the day after the shooting would have marked Sabrina's birthday. She was also in the midst of planning to open a salon in Douglasville.
Meanwhile, Sabrina's daughters are keeping her legacy alive by moving forward with their mother's business aspirations. As reported by Atlanta News First, the grand opening of the Groomsmen of Atlanta Barbershop proceeded as planned on Sunday, despite the devastating loss. "This really helps keep us going today because this was a really tough, tough day for us. This is what my mom would've wanted," Shabrecka Polk told Atlanta News First.
Friends, family, and loyal customers attended the opening to show their support for Sabrina's endeavor and her daughters. "She was a loving person. She showed up for people so they’re going to show up for her," said Anesha Nixon. As the investigation into the tragic events continues, the GBI is set to perform an autopsy while the question of charges against Volanta remains unanswered. Details regarding assistance to the bereaved family were provided, with contact information to offer support in the wake of this community tragedy, as per Atlanta News First.
