Dunedin Fire Rescue recently responded to a residential fire on San Mateo Drive, where firefighters AJ Gonzales and Makayla Bowers rescued a trapped resident. According to the Dunedin Fire Rescue's Facebook post, reports of someone inside the home prompted an immediate response as the two firefighters entered the burning structure through heavy smoke and flames.
Inside, they located and rescued the individual, guiding them out safely. Once outside, Gonzales and Bowers began medical treatment, including intubation and the use of a cyanokit for smoke inhalation.
The department recognized their actions, noting Gonzales’s leadership as a Field Training Officer and Bowers’s professionalism despite her short time with the department.
