The Dunwoody Parks and Recreation Department has received the District 6 Agency of the Year Award for the fifth consecutive year from the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association (GRPA). The award was presented during GRPA’s annual banquet, as per the City of Dunwoody release.
In addition, Parks and Recreation Director Rachel Waldron received the Greg White Distinguished Professional of the Year Award, a new honor introduced in 2025 to recognize long-term contributions to leisure services. Staff members David Alexander and Kate Borden were also recognized individually for their work in maintenance and program development.
This year, the department expanded program offerings with initiatives such as Special Pops Tennis, Adaptive Soccer, and new therapeutic programs. Public spaces were upgraded with art installations, new playgrounds, and the addition of four SaveStations equipped with AEDs. A Veterans Memorial is scheduled to be unveiled in time for Veterans Day.
The department manages over 200 acres of parkland and requires 80 hours of annual staff training. These efforts ensure the continued development and accessibility of Dunwoody’s parks and programs.
