On November 1, Dunwoody residents will grab bags and gloves to scour their city for trash as part of the annual #GreatDunwoodyCleanup. In a communal push to beautify their streets and protect their waterways, the City of Dunwoody is rallying volunteers from all walks of life — families, school groups, and civic organizations are encouraged to join the effort and contribute to preserving the local environment.
Cody Dallas, the Stormwater Manager of Dunwoody, highlighted the simplicity and the effectiveness of the initiative. "The Great Dunwoody Cleanup keeps gaining momentum because it’s easy for anyone to jump in," Dallas said in a statement released by the Dunwoody official website. "When volunteers clear trash before it reaches a storm drain, they’re directly preventing pollution in our creeks." Participants can pick any location within the city that they feel could use some tender loving care, be it a litter-strewn street or a neglected wooded area.
To participate, residents simply need to visit the Stormwater team's website and register their plan, allowing the city to track and support the clean-up efforts across Dunwoody. Moreover, participating groups are encouraged to share their day's achievements on social media using the hashtag #GreatDunwoodyCleanup and emailing photos of their contributions.
Kingsley Elementary School is amongst the several proactive groups, seeking volunteers for its outdoor classroom, hoping to not just clean, but also to enhance the space with new plantings.
