The Durham Board of County Commissioners met again on Monday. Chair Nida Allam called the session to order at 7:00 p.m., beginning discussions on topics including public health and infrastructure. Prior to the main meeting, a Closed Session was held at 5:30 p.m. to address matters in accordance with G.S. 143-318.11(a)(6).

Joined by an audience, the Commissioners recited the pledge of allegiance in a routine ceremony. Clerk Monica Wallace then began the session by sharing several public service announcements. An important upcoming event, according to Durham County, is the early voting for the Municipal General Election, scheduled to take place from tomorrow through November 1.

Several public health appointments were announced by the Board, including Brad Caison as Durham County’s HIV Navigator and Bridget Nelson as the new Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and Resilience Coordinator, both under Public Health Director Dr. Rodney Jenkins. The Commissioners also designated October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

The BOCC addressed the budget with several amendments and approvals. Funding was allocated to programs such as disease surveillance and opioid response strategies. The Board also approved an extension of the joint crisis communications plan agreement through the end of 2026. Additionally, they approved the Stanford L. Warren Interior Upgrades Project and authorized the creation of three new full-time positions in the County’s Sewer Utility Enterprise Fund.

The next meeting is scheduled for October 27 and will be broadcast live on Spectrum channel 8, AT&T U-verse channel 99, and the County’s YouTube channel.
