Durham County is seeking community input on its new Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Vision Plan, which aims to improve connectivity and mobility across the county. The plan outlines the development of a comprehensive high-capacity public transportation network designed to enhance travel options for residents and visitors over the next 30 years.
The Vision Plan includes an assessment of local needs and how BRT could be implemented along key corridors in the county. Funded by a dedicated sales tax for public transportation, the BRT system will provide high-frequency service, dedicated bus lanes, and traffic prioritization technology designed to reduce waiting times at traffic signals, according to Durham County.
Open houses and virtual sessions are being held to present preliminary findings of the Vision Plan and gather public feedback. An online survey is also available until November 30 for those who wish to submit comments.
Integration with the Central Durham BRT Project includes a 5-mile corridor designated for BRT improvements, connecting Duke/VA Medical Center to Downtown Durham and extending to the Village.
