Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey will present the Department of Insurance’s highest honor, the Order of the Guardian Award, to George Stevens of George Stevens Insurance Agency Inc. in Durham. The ceremony, scheduled for today, recognizes Stevens for his long-standing contributions to the local business community and the insurance industry since 1962.
Stevens, known locally as “Mr. George,” began his career with North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Co., where he held various positions over 32 years. After retiring from NC Mutual in November 1995, he started his own agency, continuing to support and inspire business owners. A recent press release from the North Carolina Department of Insurance notes that Stevens’ colleagues recognize his dedication to encouraging others as a key part of his professional approach.
In discussing his various roles, Stevens has stated that being an insurance agent is his primary occupation. Over decades of economic and industry changes, he has continued to work in this field. His responsibilities include managing policies and supporting the stability and continuity of the lives and goals of his clients.
