Durham residents, you're officially on deck to weigh in on how your city dollars should be spent. The invitation is out for you to join a series of Community Conversations this November, where you'll get to communicate directly your views on the city's fiscal plans for the upcoming year. Not just a proverbial seat at the table, but an actual one—with dinner and $25 to boot.
The city is hoping to avidly engage with as many of you as possible in these events to truly reflect your priorities in the Fiscal Year 2026-2027 Budget. According to a release by the City of Durham, they're going to roll out six opportunities throughout November for you to show up, share, and speak up. In a move that could only be interpreted as both savvy and considerate, they're even offering on-site childcare, so parents can to freely participate in the conversations.
For those who like the specifics, here's the lowdown. You can find these sessions at various community hubs across Durham. The first meeting kicks off on November 5, from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Durham Armory. The full schedule includes a meeting on Thursday, conducted in Spanish at El Futuro, and wrap up sessions through November 22, ensuring various days and locations to fit diverse schedules. Each event is framed to push past the usual gripes and hopes to dive deep into the lived experiences and expectations of Durham citizens.
If topics like affordable housing, public safety, infrastructure, or workforce development matter to you, this is your opportunity to get involved. Attendees aged 13 and older will receive a $25 Visa gift card as a thank-you for participating.
Registration is still open for those who want to join. Visit the city’s budget page to sign up and take part in the discussion about Durham’s future.
