
Earlier this morning chaos ensued after a collision involving a white Toyota Tundra and a blue Mustang resulted in significant vehicle damage and the closure of a major Charlotte roadway. According to reporting by WBTV, the incident occurred around 4 a.m. at the intersection of Wilkinson Boulevard and West Morehead Street, causing downed power lines and disruption to a stop light. Wilkinson Boulevard was closed in both directions as a result. Commuters faced unexpected detours, and nearby residents were left wondering about potential power outages.
Duke Energy crews and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police were on scene, managing the fallout of the early morning disruption. Officials from the Charlotte Department of Transportation (CDOT) also arrived to assist. Initially, re-opening of the road was slated for 8:15 a.m. but, was pushed back to 12:30 p.m., QC News reported. Amidst the wreckage, police discovered a half-empty bottle of liquor and several drug pipes inside the truck, suggesting possible impairment. The driver of the truck allegedly fled the scene post-crash.
One individual involved in the crash sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital, as WSOC-TV reported. The extent of the injuries was not elaborated upon, but medical authorities confirmed they were not life-threatening. Despite the severe impact on local infrastructure, no major power outages had been reported as of 7 a.m. that morning.
