Chatham County voters will have multiple options for casting their ballots in the upcoming Municipal Election. Early voting begins on October 16 and runs through November 1, offering residents an extended opportunity to participate in local races across Siler City, Pittsboro, and surrounding areas. Ballots may be cast at either the Chatham County Agriculture & Conference Center or New Hope Baptist Church during the early voting period, according to the county's website.
For the early birds, the Agriculture & Conference Center, located at 1192 US HWY 64 West Business in Pittsboro, opens its doors on October 16 at 8:00 a.m., with weekday voting available until 5:00 p.m. And for those who prefer a weekend jaunt, they've got you covered too, with Saturday hours on October 25 and November 1, and a special Sunday slot on October 26. Meanwhile, the faithful over at New Hope Baptist Church, situated at 581 New Hope Church Rd. in Apex, welcome weekend voters starting October 25 and offer an additional time slot on weekdays beginning October 27.
Voters who missed the registration deadline still have an opportunity to register and vote during the early voting period in Chatham County. However, same-day registration will not be available on Election Day, November 4. Those opting to vote by mail must submit their North Carolina Absentee Ballot Request Form to the Chatham County Board of Elections by 5 p.m. on October 21, as per the same announcement.
In North Carolina, voters are required to present a photo ID when casting their ballots. While a driver’s license is the most common form, several other acceptable IDs are recognized. Those without an ID can obtain one free of charge at the Chatham County Board of Elections office or through the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles’ “No-Fee ID Card” program. Voters unable to present an ID at the polls may complete an ID Exception Form to ensure their ballot is counted. The same process applies to absentee voters who are unable to include a copy of their ID with their ballot envelope.
Whether casting a ballot during the early voting period or on Election Day, November 4, residents have several convenient options to participate in the democratic process.
