Chaos erupted on the East side of Cleveland yesterday when an illegal street racing incident led to a major crash involving 10 vehicles and sent two individuals to the hospital. Cleveland19 reported that the crash occurred around midnight near East 93rd Street and Crane Avenue, where two drivers were competing in a high-speed race.
As informed by Cleveland police, one of the drivers, in an attempt to avoid collision with an oncoming car, swerved and struck a parked vehicle, setting off a domino effect. The impact was so severe that, according to the police statement obtained by FOX 8 News, the racing car hit multiple other parked vehicles and the debris from the accident also struck nearby cars.
In a development from the scene, the Cleveland Police Street Takeover Detail, as mentioned by Cleveland19, reported that the 20-year-old driver of the car and a 24-year-old passenger suffered serious injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital. Charges against the driver include aggravated vehicular assault, having weapons under disability, and receiving stolen property, following the confiscation of two firearms from the vehicle.
The incident didn't just leave a trail of vehicle wreckage but also brought forth charges for the driver of the second racing vehicle. They were cited for illegal street racing and willful and wanton disregard for safety, as the street bore witness to their reckless abandon. No other injuries were reported in the wake of the incident, highlighting a dangerous blend of speed and lawlessness that night on the city's streets.
