In a notable effort to embrace inclusiveness, El Paso Community College hosted its inaugural Hireability Job Fair last Thursday. The event, held at the college's Valle Verde Campus, was a collaborative initiative between EPCC Career and Transfer Services and the EPCC Center for Students with Disabilities. According to EPCC News, the fair aimed to connect students and community members with disability-friendly employers committed to fostering diversity and equal opportunity.
The event assembled a wide array of employers, offering attendees the chance at jobs and internships in a diverse range of fields. Resources like on-site résumé reviews and career support sessions were also made available. "The Hireability Job Fair was designed to create an empowering space where all individuals, especially those with disabilities, can explore meaningful career paths," John Estrada, EPCC Center for Student Disabilities Recruitment Transition and Training Coordinator, told EPCC News.
Employers present at the job fair included local government entities and various organizations such as the U.S. Army, U.S. Border Patrol, and Texas Gas. Kristine Montellano, a Human Resources Analyst with the City of El Paso, emphasized the importance of such an event, saying, "It's extremely important because we're always hiring and having a disability does not mean you cannot do something," as per EPCC News. She revealed that the City of El Paso updates its job postings every Thursday.
