The El Paso County Sheriff's Office has officially rolled out its 2024 Annual Report, and the details within it paint a picture of a department firmly committed to keeping its community safe and engaged. The report, highlighted by a focus on progress in key areas set by Sheriff Joseph Roybal, demonstrates the Office's dedication to community trust, victim reduction, quality service, and legislation.
Among the achievements touted in the report, the Sheriff's Office hosted three POST-certified Regional Academies for law enforcement training. It also charted progress with the expansion of mental health and medical programs within the El Paso County Jail, including the introduction of a new medical provider called VitalCore. "It is a great honor of my life to serve as the 29th Sheriff," Roybal stated, as per the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. "In 2024, we advanced our strategic goals while preserving our Office’s culture and Western heritage. We remained steadfast in our commitment to fiscal responsibility, professional excellence, and community trust. Together, we will continue to build a stronger, safer, and more resilient El Paso County."
Technology upgrades were another focus with the acquisition of new fleet vehicles, UAV operations, and computer systems modernization. The Office also fostered regional collaboration through cross-deputization with Teller County and continued its partnerships with various law enforcement and community organizations aimed at driving down crime rates.
Community engagement soared as well, with the Office hosting outreach events, educational programs, and volunteer initiatives. This led to a significant 20 percent increase in public communications and outreach, underscoring a year where community involvement was evidently a priority. A crucial part of the department's success, the nearly 1,000 sworn deputies, professional staff, and over 200 volunteers were also recognized for their dedicated service. In addition, emphasis was placed on investing in employee well-being, with a revamp of the Peer Support Program and broadened training opportunities for professional development highlighted in the report.
