El Paso ISD's finest young athletes are set to take on the UIL State Cross Country Championships this weekend. The district's twelve students qualified to showcase their speed and stamina on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock, which plays host to one of the most challenging courses in Texas. The students hail from various high schools representing different classes, such as Austin High's Luis Pereda in 4A, El Paso High's Andrew Truax in 5A, and a group of competitors from Coronado and Franklin High Schools in 6A.

These local runners are ready to quickly test their limits and push ahead against some of the state's best. "These incredible athletes embody the perseverance, discipline, and teamwork that define El Paso ISD athletics," said David Cervantes, Executive Director of Athletics, as obtained by El Paso ISD. Their journey to reach the upper echelon of Texas high school cross country is a testament to their hard work and the solid programs at their respective schools.

Alongside Luis Pereda and Andrew Truax, the contingent from Coronado High includes Rodrigo Pinales and Humberto Serna. Franklin High will have a strong presence with Emily Orr, Mike Villa, Richard Mendoza, Bryant Standage, Jacob Martinez, Frankie Medina, Sebastian Mendez, and Sebastian Camacho all competing. Their collective effort points to a successful season that's seen not just individual talent but shared goals and achievements. The community is encouraged to support them as they make their mark in the race for state titles.
