In a move that's rounding up nods of approval citywide, El Paso's own Northwest Early College High School senior, Jacob Lozano, has been recognized as the very first recipient of the Mayor’s Team of Excellence Award this October as a solid way to kick off the school year. According to Canutillo ISD, Mayor Renard Johnson personally handed the award to Lozano, shining a spotlight on his stellar academic performance coupled with an unswerving dedication to community service.
"Jacob has done so much for the community and so much for his school," Mayor Johnson told attendees, as per Canutillo ISD, vividly proud of the star student's contributions, which range from leading the Student Council to acing his grades as valedictorian, a saga of achievements that just keeps growing. This isn't just a pat on the back with a shiny medal and certificate; it's the city's way of saying, "We see you and we're impressed." Jacob isn't resting on his laurels, though, having set his sights on Yale University to possibly carve out a career in civil rights or criminal justice law, because making a mark in the world seems to be his thing.
What's more, Lozano's already taking his leadership to the next level with his recent selection to join the Texas State Board of Education’s (SBOE) brand new Student Advisory Council. "I feel grateful that we have a mayor who takes the time to go out across El Paso and recognize students who deserve to be recognized," Lozano expressed in his typical humble fashion. "I feel humbled and honored by this recognition," he added, as noted by Canutillo ISD. With a role that catapults him into decision-making for over 5.5 million students in Texas, it seems Lozano's trajectory is geared towards having a substantial impact on the quality and direction of education across the Lone Star State.
