An elderly man lost his life and a woman was critically injured in a rollover crash that took place on Interstate 35 at Rittiman Road this past Saturday, causing significant traffic disruption. According to KSAT, the incident occurred in the early afternoon, just after 2 p.m., where the male driver, 76, driving a 2006 Ford F-150, clashed with a Dodge Avenger that merged onto the highway.
The Ford driver is reported to have become agitated and began to curse at the driver of the Dodge Avenger subsequently, the two vehicles collided, causing the truck to overturn onto its side, and the Dodge was hurled against the center concrete barrier, coming to a halt, traffic on three southbound lanes of I-35 was disrupted as reported by the Texas Department of Transportation. In the chaos that followed, San Antonio police reported that neither the man nor his female passenger were wearing seatbelts, both suffered serious injuries with the man pronounced dead at the scene and the woman transported to a hospital for further treatment, their ages were later confirmed by News 4 San Antonio to be in their late 70s.
The man's name has yet to be released, pending notification of kin, the passenger's condition remains critical. The driver of the Dodge, a man in his 20s, was not seriously injured. As investigations continue into the exact cause of the crash, it remains unclear whether any charges will be filed against those involved; San Antonio Police Department is still assessing the scene, however, initial statements suggest it is unlikely that charges will be forthcoming. The San Antonio Fire Department confirmed the deceased, and the injured passenger's transportation to the hospital, as the SAPD's investigation into the accident remains ongoing.
