A tragic incident occurred in the usually tranquil Royal Oak neighborhood on Friday night, when an 83-year-old man was fatally stabbed in his own home. CBS News Detroit reported that the police were summoned to the 4300 block of Sheridan Drive after a distress call at around 9:30 p.m. Upon their arrival, authorities found a 35-year-old woman with blood on her hands who attempted to flee but was subsequently taken into custody.
Law enforcement entered the residence, where they discovered the elderly man unresponsive with multiple stab wounds in the basement. He died at the scene. The woman in custody was identified as a guest at the house during the incident and is known to both the decedent and the homeowner, said ClickOnDetroit. Residents of the peaceful suburban street expressed their shock, with one local recounting, "Hugely abnormal for the neighborhood. Way out of place for this neighborhood," and mentioning how friends had reached out in disbelief over the violent event.
The Royal Oak Police Department is actively investigating the case, and while the woman remains in custody, the motive behind the stabbing has not yet been disclosed. Audacy's WWJ Newsradio reported that, following the suspect's arrest, the ongoing investigation's findings would be forwarded to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
