An elderly man has died following a house fire in Iredell County. Firefighters from multiple departments responded to the blaze on Sharon School Road yesterday afternoon at around 2:30 p.m. According to WBTV, the victim was found deceased approximately eight to ten feet from the back door of the house.

Firefighters from the West Iredell and units from Catawba, Stony Point, Troutman, and Monticello Fire Departments, along with the Iredell County EMS and Rescue Squad, worked collaboratively to manage the situation, while the victim, who had disabilities and could not be saved, was pronounced dead at the scene, as per WSOCTV.

The Iredell County Fire Marshal’s Office, along with the Sheriff’s Office, is currently investigating the cause of the fire. Preliminary findings by the county fire marshal suggest it may have started from a woodstove in the living room, as reported by WBTV.

Despite rapid intervention by first responders, much of the home was destroyed by the fire. Authorities contained the flames in about an hour. During firefighting efforts, Sharon School Road was temporarily closed to traffic to allow for the establishment of a water supply, as reported by WHKY. A full investigation will be conducted to determine the circumstances surrounding the fire.
