An officer with the Englewood Police Department was stabbed by a suspect at a local Denny's early Tuesday morning, according to reports from 9News. The encounter took place at approximately 12:35 a.m. at the Denny's located on 275 West Hampden Ave., where the suspect had previously attempted to stab an employee. When the officers located the suspect, a confrontation ensued, resulting in the stabbing and subsequent shooting of the suspect.
Upon arrival, police were initially met with an employee near the diner's entrance and were informed that the suspect was isolated in the bathroom, however, the situation rapidly escalated after the suspect emerged and "pulled out a knife and charged at officers, stabbing one officer in the shoulder area" and in the ensuing actions necessary for their safety, one officer shot the suspect, as detailed by CBS News Colorado.
Both the injured officer and the suspect received medical attention; the officer was "treated and released from an area hospital" while the suspect's condition remained undisclosed at the time of reporting, according to Denver7. After his treatment, the suspect is expected to face charges in relation to the stabbing and will be held at the Arapahoe County Jail.
