
Matthew Silverstone, the 18-year-old survivor of the Evergreen High School shooting, has been released from CommonSpirit St. Anthony Hospital, as shared in an update to the press. In an emotional display of support, around 140 first responders and hospital workers gathered with blue balloons to celebrate Matthew's discharge. The information regarding this event was disclosed by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, which has been assisting the Silverstone family in communicating with the public. Honoring the family's request for privacy, Matthew's current whereabouts have not been disclosed.
Having sustained critical injuries during the September 10th school shooting, Matthew's recovery has been termed miraculous by his family. According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, released five weeks post-attack, his journey back to health was fraught with challenges. He was shot in the head and chest, his heart stopped twice, and the prognosis was grim. Yet, amidst the uncertainty, Matthew has now managed to speak and walk with assistance, showcasing resilience that has surpassed expectations.
Paige Silverstone, Matthew's mother, expressed her profound thanks to the community for their outpouring of support, "Your generosity has reminded us that we are not alone. Each act of kindness, each word of encouragement, each prayer, has lifted Matthew and all of us more than I can ever express," she told the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. The Silverstone family highlighted the important roles played by the first responders, hospital staff, and the community of Evergreen, acknowledging their collective efforts in buoying Matthew's spirits and aiding his recovery.
