Residents of The Colony experienced a rude awakening yesterday when an explosion ripped through a neighborhood home, instantly setting it ablaze and spreading fire to surrounding properties. According to FOX 4, the incident occurred just before 1 a.m. on the 4600 block of Freeman Drive. Firefighters from multiple departments responded to the site, where they found the one-story brick house leveled by the blast and homes adjacent to it on fire. As daylight broke, neighbor Daniel Siguenza recounted how he rushed to evacuate his family, saying, "I start waking everyone up knocking at doors just trying to get everyone up and out and 30 seconds later cops knock on our door telling us to get out, that there's a fire."

Meanwhile, NBC 5 reported on the sensory experiences of other locals, such as Brandon Luna, who was jolted from his evening activities by the tremendous explosion. "The house shook, the waves felt like it traveled through you," Luna said. In a chilling revelation, he also noted an odd smell hours before the fire, reminiscent of an "open propane tank or gas." Despite homes in the area primarily using electricity, this detail adds to the mystery of what may have caused the disaster. The fire reignited around 6:45 a.m. in a neighboring home, necessitating firefighters to break down doors to battle the blaze.

No injuries have been reported thus far, which neighbors find astonishing given the scale of the destruction. Embers from the explosion caused one nearby house to catch fire, leading authorities to escalate their response.

The Denton County Arson Task Force is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the explosion. As part of the ongoing inquiry, several neighbors reported to NBC 5 seeing someone driving away from the scene shortly after the blast. The Colony Fire Chief Scott Thompson has acknowledged these assertions but has refrained from commenting further on them. While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, the event has left the affected community shaken and in a state of recovery as they contend with the aftermath of the sudden inferno that disrupted their lives in the depths of night.
