According to an alert broadcast by Dispatch last Tuesday, at approximately 1 PM, a vehicle was reported stolen, containing what was vaguely described as "very precious cargo." The theft, occurring near Travis Boulevard and eastbound I-80, set off an immediate search and response from the Fairfield Police Department.
Officers Tuss and Beedle, quick in their pursuit, spotted the missing vehicle on Travis at North Texas Street. With support from additional police units, they conducted what's known in law enforcement as a high-risk stop, pulling over the car and detaining its occupants. The driver, identified as 44-year-old Heather Mercado, was arrested at the scene and later booked into Solano County Jail.
The "precious cargo" referenced turned out to be an undisclosed item of significant value to the owner - and it would seem to a broader community interest, given its special mention in the report. The type of the cargo wasn't specified in the original release from the Fairfield Police Department's social media page. The department later shared celebratory images of the reunification with what or whoever comprised this cargo, flanked by Officers Raftery and Amavisca, smiling beside their recovered trove.
