Chaos erupted in the streets of Fall River early Sunday morning as a coordinated event involving street racing and reckless driving led to multiple arrests and citywide disruptions. The City of Fall River Police Department reported that the incidents, which were part of a preplanned effort to disturb the peace, began around 12:26 a.m. with reports of blocked roadways and dangerous driving behavior.
Previous activities in nearby communities had seen similar disturbances, but with minimal police interventions. The group in Fall River went as far as to impede an ambulance on Innovation Way, forcing it to reroute, a move that could have dire consequences for those in need of emergency services. The disruptions culminated on Davol Street and Central Street, where roughly 200 individuals commandeered the area, refused to give way to police orders, turning it into a makeshift arena for vehicular stunts and firework displays, with many wearing masks to conceal their identities.
As per the reports, these streets are critical for hospital access, underscoring the serious threat such incidents pose to public safety. The police department's investigation unearthed that the group had initially gathered in Brockton before making their way to Fall River as a convoy. The confrontation with law enforcement resulted in the towing of four vehicles and five arrests, with a warrant pending for a sixth individual involved in this premeditated disturbance. Arrested individuals include Jahir Gonzalez, Alexander Copsetta, Alyssa Deyoung, Mackenzie Benjamin, and Aiden Meehen, who was additionally charged with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.
Further legal action is expected as the police department's post indicates, with a warrant already sought for Brennden Ortega on charges akin to resisting arrest.
