Chaos briefly took over Largo High School yesterday when, in what turned out to be a startling but thankfully harmless mishap, the school's active assailant button was accidently triggered, prompting a school-wide lockdown and a swift response from local law enforcement. In a post shared by the Largo Police Department, it was confirmed that "Students and staff are safe and followed all lockdown protocols."
The incident, which occurred this afternoon, saw the Largo Police Department, Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, and Schools Police converge on the school grounds to assess the situation, that turned out to be a false alarm and after thoroughly investigating the premises, authorities confirmed the safety of everyone involved; including the dismissal process for students may have been delayed as officers and school officials continued to carry out safety checks. While the community caught its collective breath, the Largo Police emphasized, "The safety and security of our schools remain our top priority."
