Tragedy struck on the US-101 yesterday as a Ford Expedition careened out of control and overturned, leading to the death of the driver. The California Highway Patrol in Santa Rosa responded to the accident that took place northbound, just south of Yolanda Avenue. The official social media post from CHP Santa Rosa stated that the preliminary findings indicated that the vehicle was in the middle lane before the driver lost control.
The Expedition then veered left, smashing into the center median, before crossing over all lanes and colliding with a guardrail. It eventually came to a stop, overturned in a roadside ditch, its roof submerged in water. The adult male driver, extracted from the wreck by emergency personnel, was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, but despite their efforts, he was later pronounced dead.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident. The CHP has not yet released the identity of the deceased, pending next of kin notification, and redirected inquiries to the Sonoma County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office. They are appealing to the public for anyone with information about the accident to contact the Santa Rosa CHP Office at (707) 806-5600.
