
A tragic incident unfolded in Santa Fe Springs on Monday, as a construction worker was fatally trapped underneath a street sweeper at a site near Carmenita Road and Florence Avenue; authorities responded to the scene following a distress call regarding a man stuck under a vehicle at approximately 8:30 a.m., according to CBS Los Angeles.
Upon arrival, the fire personnel, unfortunately, confirmed the worker's entrapment and subsequently pronounced him deceased at the scene. Further reports from ABC7 stated the man was part of the construction crew working on asphalt near a Target store; the scene was not connected to any city project, the city of Santa Fe Springs clarified.
The identity of the worker has not been released pending notification of next of kin; Whittier police have taken charge of the investigation with no additional details provided as of yet, as stated by local authorities and reported by Whittier Daily News.
The worker was employed by Pave West, an Artesia-based company specializing in grading and asphalt paving, "Pave West," was reflected on the side of the vehicle involved in the accident, said Cora Hernandez, an administrative assistant at the company told Whittier Daily News, while the vehicle itself bore the markings of a different company, attempts to reach out to them for comments have remained unanswered.
