A devastating accident occurred yesterday on Lakeville Highway, resulting in one fatality and several injuries. According to a social media post by the CHP Santa Rosa, the crash involved three vehicles. It was caused by a southbound Ford Mustang that crossed into oncoming traffic while unlawfully attempting to pass another car.
The collision occurred just south of Old Lakeville Road #3 at around 5:56 AM. The Ford Mustang collided head-on with a Honda HR-V traveling in the opposite direction after it crossed the double yellow lines. The Mustang's driver, suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, was later arrested. The impaired driver, alongside the major injuries, was transported to the hospital.
The impact was so severe that it caused not only the death of a passenger in the Honda but also major injuries to its driver, who is currently receiving medical attention at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. Additionally, the Mustang’s maneuver caused a Toyota Highlander, which was also struck during the incident, to spin off the road, although thankfully, none of its six occupants were injured. The highway remained closed for several hours, forcing detours until late morning.
Local authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances leading up to the crash. They ask that any witnesses or those with pertinent information contact the Santa Rosa CHP Office at (707) 806-5600.
