The tragic culmination of familial discord unfolded in Goodyear, Arizona, as Antwan Jones Sr. was found dead, launching an investigation into a deadly altercation involving his two sons, Dayvon Jones and Antwan Jones Jr. On Wednesday, police responding to a 911 call discovered the 41-year-old not breathing in his bedroom. Life-saving efforts commenced but proved unavailing; the man was pronounced dead at Abrazo Hospital shortly thereafter. The authorities have charged Dayvon, 22, with second-degree murder and aggravated assault while his brother Antwan Jr., 23, faces an aggravated assault charge, this was reported by AZ Family.
Early indications suggest the confrontation was not without precursors, as the siblings told police after leaving for the department that their father's aggressive outburst was met with defensive force, they stated in fear of further assault they had to choke and punch their father—he had posed a continuous threat with verbal sparring and physical aggression on a weekly occurrence, their actions being a final, desperate response to ongoing turmoil. Court documents indicated an argument the night prior, where Jones Jr. expressed a desire to disengage and live his life, which carried over into the next morning, FOX 10 Phoenix reported. It was then, amidst provocations, that a physical fight erupted, leading to the fatal moment where Dayvon held his father in a chokehold while Antwan Jr. delivered multiple punches.
According to AZ Family, the documentation a part of the court records reflect a history of domestic strife, with past allegations of the senior Jones assaulting and even strangling Jones Jr., testimonies supported by their mother and other children in the household. Despite these reported incidents, the victim's sister contested the accusations, denying the claims of habitual violence made against her brother.
The current legal standing for the brothers is severe, with both being held on a $500,000 bond, evidence, and testimony are now pillars in a case that twists the fibers of family, justice, and self-defense into a tangled skein as investigators sift the truth of that fateful morning. During an interview detectives, the brothers reiterated the fear instilled by Jones Sr.'s outbursts and threats they'd been living under his volatile temperament, this environment of fear, they said, forced their hands in a grim bid for survival, FOX 10 Phoenix conveyed.
