Tragedy struck Amador County yesterday evening when a head-on crash claimed the life of one person and left another critically injured. The collision, which occurred just after 7 p.m. on Highway 88 at Aqueduct Grove Road, led to a significant emergency response with crews working to free two individuals from the wreckage, according to KCRA.
The California Highway Patrol informed that the incident involved two pickup trucks, where a woman driving westbound drifted into the eastbound lanes, colliding with the other vehicle the Amador Fire Chief Robert Withrow stating, two vehicles collided head-on, causing major damage, and the extrication of both drivers became a dire necessity; the woman was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries, however, the man driving the opposing truck was pronounced dead at the scene, in a statement obtained by CBS News.
Further complicating the aftermath was the shutdown of Highway 88 which remained closed until late into the night, reopening only just before 11 p.m., as stated by Caltrans information received by Fox40.
