A man tragically lost his life after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 5 in Yolo County, according to information from the local sheriff's office. The incident occurred near County Road 8 in Dunnigan, which is situated just north of Woodland. It was reported that the man was walking on the freeway when the collision happened. The Yolo County Sheriff's Office specified that the victim was hit by a "big truck." As of now, the California Highway Patrol has yet to provide additional details on the matter, despite outreach from ABC10.
In a separate report, the California Highway Patrol disclosed that the collision was, in fact, a hit-and-run incident involving a big rig. The crash is said to have occurred in a construction zone last night. Caltrans workers were present and reportedly saw the white big rig with a grille guard in the front, which appeared to initially slow down after the impact but subsequently continued to drive away southbound on I-5. The hit-and-run prompted an urgent call to action, as the CHP is now urging any potential witnesses, or those with information about the white big rig, to come forward and contact the CHP Woodland division. The victim, identified only as a man, was pronounced dead at the scene, as reported by KCRA.
Authorities were initially summoned to a rest area off I-5 at County Road 8 around 8 p.m. on the night of the accident. However, while they were en route, another call came in reporting a pedestrian on the freeway. A mere 10 minutes later, around 8:10 p.m., a subsequent call to the CHP reported the pedestrian being hit in the southbound lanes of I-5. These sequential updates provided law enforcement with a timeline, though the driver involved in the hit-and-run still remains at large.
