Early today, tragedy struck Parkway West near the Pittsburgh International Airport when a wrong-way collision claimed the life of a local woman and injured two others. According to a WPXI report, the incident occurred at around 1:18 a.m. when Summer Cartrette, 26, of Aliquippa, drove her Toyota Camry eastbound in the westbound lanes and collided head-on with another vehicle near mile marker 54 in Findlay Township.
The crash not only led to a fatality but also caused significant disruption, as a portion of the interstate was forced to close for approximately four hours to allow emergency responders to meticulously clear the scene and investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision. It is essential, yet heartbreaking, to acknowledge the loss this crash has incurred upon the Cartrette family.
Cartrette was quickly transported to an area hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. The TribLIVE also confirmed that the individuals in the other vehicle involved were taken to the hospital, with their condition being unreported as of yet.
