The FBI's San Diego Field Office has concluded a three-month-long national operation named 'Summer Heat,' targeting violent crime across the region with significant results. As reported on the FBI's official website, Special Agent in Charge Mark Dargis said, "The results of the FBI’s Summer Heat operations are proof that surging resources with our federal, state, and local law enforcement partners can, and did, make a significant impact on violent crime in our region."
From June 24 through September 20, the nationwide sweep led to 8,629 arrests, with more than 6,500 attributed to the agency’s Violent Crime and Gang program. The initiative also resulted in identifying or locating 1,053 victim children. Locally, the San Diego Field Office took 76 individuals into custody, one of whom was a violent fugitive from Mexico involved in distributing sizable quantities of narcotics, including methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine throughout Southern California.
Additionally, the San Diego efforts yielded the seizure of five weapons and significant drug hauls totaling approximately $1.9 million in value. This included 107 kilograms of cocaine and 74 kilograms of methamphetamine. Furthermore, as per the FBI's statement, their collaboration was instrumental in securing a lengthy prison sentence for an individual on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted Fugitive list who led a criminal enterprise that exploited young women into the pornography industry.
