Five young suspects were taken into custody for weapons possession last Tuesday evening after a routine traffic stop in Coachella escalated into an arms bust. At approximately 10:35 p.m. along Highway 86 and Avenue 50, deputies from the Thermal Sheriff's Station encountered the suspects. When their car came under scrutiny, a handgun, rifle, and ammunitions were unearthed, leading to their arrests.
On the scene, the individuals, all 18 years of age, were identified: Alejandro Herrera, Fernando Regalado Jr., and Angel Uriarte of Indio; Jorge Torres of Coachella; and Alejandro Rodriguez, also hailing from Indio. Loaded with firearms and intent, this quintet now finds themselves behind bars at the John Benoit Detention Center as the deputies continue probing into the conspiracy.
While the investigation trudges forward, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department has clamped down on sharing additional insights into the case. A statement released on their website declared it an ongoing affair and shut the door on further public releases. Instead, they are casting a net for tips, nudging those with information to give Deputy Beltran a ring at the Thermal Sheriff's Station.
