Two Delta aircraft operated by Endeavor Air collided during taxiing at LaGuardia Airport on a Wednesday evening, resulting in injuries to a flight attendant. The incident occurred at around 9 p.m., as detailed in a report by FOX 5 New York. Following the collision, both planes' occupants were evacuated and Delta Air Lines ensured passengers were accommodated with hotel stays and rebooked flights for the following Thursday.
One aircraft was arriving from Charlotte, North Carolina, and the second was departing to Roanoke, Virginia, when their paths mistakenly crossed, the wing clipping the fuselage of the other. While on the move to carefully sidestep the intricacies of airport traffic, the two planes grazed each other, sparking immediate emergency responses. The Federal Aviation Administration has started to investigate the circumstances behind the occurrence, as mentioned in reports from Gothamist. Both aircraft were CRJ-900 models, smaller commercial jets seating up to 76 passengers.
Delta issued a statement addressing the event, stating, "Delta teams at our New York-LaGuardia hub are working to ensure our customers are taken care of after two Delta Connection aircraft operated by Endeavor Air were involved in a low-speed collision during taxi. Delta will work with all relevant authorities to review what occurred as safety of our customers and people comes before all else. We apologize to our customers for the experience," a comment shared via the aforementioned FOX 5 New York report.
The injured flight attendant was promptly treated by emergency medical technicians on the scene, but Delta abstained from sharing which plane they were on. Passengers were not reported to have sustained any injuries. The airline promptly moved to offer assistance, busing passengers back to the terminal, and providing food, drinks, and hotel accommodations. According to Delta, more than 200 flights depart from LaGuardia daily, marking it as a major operational hub for the airline, Gothamist included in their coverage. The exact cause of the collision remains to be officially determined as investigations continue.
