As Diwali, the iconic festival of lights, approaches, the City of Folsom gets ready to light up the skyline – responsibly, that is. The Folsom Fire Department has issued a public notice calling for safety measures during the upcoming festivities set to pop off between Saturday, October 18, and Monday, October 20. According to an announcement on Folsom's official website, those planning to celebrate with fireworks are urged to follow specific safety guidelines to ensure the event goes off without a hitch – or a burn, for that matter.
In line with the friendly reminder, residents must keep an eye out for the State Fire Marshal's "Safe and Sane" seal on all firework packaging—this is non-negotiable. It is stressed that the approved fireworks should always be utilized under the watchful eyes of an adult, as this is not child's play. Nearby, a bucket of water or sand should stand by, or a garden hose must be easily accessible in case things heat up more than desired, as per Folsom's official website.
Moreover, it's paramount to guarantee fireworks have sufficient clearance from anything that could ignite – be it dry grass or brush. With bonfires as a norm of the holiday, additional care must be taken to keep flames controlled and contained. Pet owners also need to heed the call to protect their fur babies by giving them a secure spot indoors, away from the noise and lights of the celebrations, which can be especially stressful for our sensitive, four-legged friends.
