Early yesterday morning, Fort Collins became the scene of a violent altercation. According to Fort Collins Police Services, officers were dispatched to the 100 block of West Fairway Lane after receiving a report of a shooting at approximately 2:22 a.m. On arrival, they discovered one individual dead and urgently had another transported to the hospital for medical attention.
While the investigation remains active, FCPS detectives from the Crimes Against Persons Unit are piecing together the night’s events. Information gleaned thus far suggests that the involved parties were not strangers to one another. Assistant Chief Frank Barrett, overseeing CAPU within the Criminal Investigations Division, offered a statement: "This is a tragic situation, and our deepest condolences go to the families and friends of those affected," as reported by the City of Fort Collins. Detectives believe there is no ongoing threat to community safety following the incident.
Yet to be disclosed by the Larimer County Coroner are the official cause, manner, and identity of the deceased, pending the next of kin's notification.
