Among the matters on the docket is the authorization of a development agreement with GRBK Edgewood LLC to oversee the expansion of Shelton Ranch, set to occupy some 858 acres within Tarrant County, according to the City of Fort Worth.
Also up for consideration, housed under the wing of criminal justice reform and public safety, the Council will weigh the merits of applying for the DNA Capacity Enhancement for Backlog Reduction Program Grant, which could be a boon for the 2025 fiscal year. The grant is designed to shore up DNA analysis resources and stands to significantly reduce the existing backlog of cases awaiting forensic examination.
Moreover, there is a resolution on the table confirming the appointment of Raymond Hill to steer the Fort Worth Fire Department as the interim fire chief. In an effort to uplift and revitalize local communities, the New Mitchell neighborhood has been mooted as the Neighborhood Improvement Program target area for the coming fiscal year, which would inject a substantial $4,352,000 in capital funds to bolster infrastructure and quality of life there.
In the vein of rectifying the grievous events, a proposed settlement will be discussed to resolve litigation with the Estate of Ms. Rae Jean Seybold, who met an untimely end on Jan. 30, 2025, following a collision with a Fire Department engine. The City has recommended a settlement to the tune of $250,000, a gesture aiming to close the painful chapter for the involved family while acknowledging the tragedy that befell Ms. Seybold.
