In a clear-cut case of violence that shook the Fort Worth community, 44-year-old Charles Medford has been sentenced to a substantial 45 years behind bars for an aggravated assault that left an 81-year-old neighbor with severe injuries. The announcement came through a social media post from the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office, which extended gratitude towards the Fort Worth Police Department for their role in bringing the case to a close. According to the District Attorney's Office, the plea entered by Medford addressed charges for aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury and injury to an elderly person.
Caught on a Ring camera, the assault took place on June 26, 2024, where Medford, a man with a string of previous convictions, knocked his elderly neighbor to the ground. Following the fall, the victim was subjected to further indignity as a series of kicks and hits were delivered. Having suffered a multitude of serious injuries including back fractures, rib fractures, and a collapsed lung, the 81-year-old's resilience was nothing short of being put to a brutal test.
The case was not Medford's first brush with the law, revealing a habitual pattern of criminal behavior. His rap sheet included aggravated robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm, offenses that undoubtedly weighed on the court's sentencing decision. Assistant District Attorneys Idris Akinpelu and Taylor Ross were noted for their work on this case, along with Investigator Brian Johnson and Victim Coordinator Angela Stevens, who each played a pivotal role in securing the guilty plea and subsequent sentencing.
