Tragedy struck near Gold Canyon late Friday night when four people were killed in a violent collision. As reported by FOX 10 Phoenix, the crash occurred just before midnight on eastbound U.S. 60, near Peralta Road. Responders from the Superstition Fire & Medical District arrived to a disastrous scene, with one vehicle engulfed in flames and several individuals having been ejected onto the roadway.
In what was a chaotic and somber scene, Sophie Boukatch, a representative for Superstition Fire & Medical District, highlighted the critical need for basic safety measures like seatbelt use. "For it being a one-way in, one-way out road, it was pretty chaotic," Boukatch told FOX 10 Phoenix. "The basic safeties— wearing your seat belt can always help with ejections, even if it's just a little bit. That's a huge safety measure that can play a part in it." The accident claimed three lives at the scene, with another victim later succumbing to their injuries at the hospital.
As of the latest updates, the identities of the four individuals who perished in the crash have not been released to the public. The area where the collision occurred was closed for the duration of the night, causing delays and rerouting traffic until early Saturday morning when the road was reopened.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident is ongoing, under the leadership of the Arizona Department of Public Safety. According to AZ Family, the Superstition Fire & Medical District has extended its condolences to all those impacted by the crash. "Superstition Fire & Medical District extends its condolences to all those impacted by this tragic incident," the department said in a statement, reflecting a period of mourning for the community touched by this unforeseen disaster.
