In an announcement that underscores both the generosity and concern for public health within the Central Illinois community, both the Tazewell County Health Department and Carle Health are teaming up to offer free mammograms. According to 25News, this initiative will take place on Free Mammogram Day, scheduled for Friday, Oct. 17, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Women between the ages of 40 and 64, particularly those who are uninsured or underinsured, can avail this life-saving service without the need to present income documentation.

These screenings are vital for detecting breast cancer symptoms early, a fact that Tazewell County and Carle Health officials are keenly aware of, and they are extending this opportunity at Carle facilities on North Allen Road, Carle Health - Proctor in Peoria, and Carle Health - Pekin, an effort to potentially increase survival rates by encouraging early diagnosis and swift treatment. Additionally, women may also choose to enroll in the Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program through the health department, a program aimed at providing even further support to those in need.

On the same note, Carle BroMenn Medical Center is not standing idly by but instead is actively engaging in the fight against breast cancer by holding its second annual mammography clinic. As Central Illinois Proud reported, the clinic is set to operate on National Mammography Day. Echoing a commitment to preventive health measures, Beth Ghidina, director of Imaging Services at Carle BroMenn Medical Center, endorsed the effort, stating, "We are thrilled to empower individuals, whether or not they are patients at Carle BroMenn."

The free screenings at Carle BroMenn will incorporate state-of-the-art machines equipped with curved breast paddles designed to enhance patient comfort and screen accurately for abnormalities. Slated to take place at Carle BroMenn Medical Center in Normal from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., these screenings will also occur at Carle Health Pekin Hospital, Carle Health Proctor Hospital, and Carle Health Methodist North on North Allen from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., providing ample opportunities and options for those seeking to take advantage of this lifesaving opportunity, and although participants need to bring proof of age and income documentation they can fill out an income statement upon arrival if necessary.

This concerted push for increased cancer screening is supported by a grant from the Illinois Department of Public Health’s Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program and further assistance from Prairie State Women’s Health, enabling institutions like Carle Health to do their part in improving access to essential healthcare services across the state.
