The Galt Police Department will conduct a sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint this Saturday night through early Sunday morning to reduce impaired driving and enhance public safety. According to the Galt Police Department's Facebook post, the checkpoint will be held within the City of Galt from 7:00 p.m. until 4:00 a.m.
The public announcement fulfills a legal requirement and serves to remind residents of the risks associated with impaired driving. The department emphasized that advance notice of such checkpoints is both a legal obligation and a means to promote awareness of driving under the influence.
Funding for the checkpoint is provided in part by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This program aims to reduce traffic-related injuries and fatalities by discouraging impaired driving.
