The City of Garland has officially welcomed a wealth of experience into its fold with the appointment of a new Fleet Services Director. Announced by the city, the role has been filled by none other than Mr. Dennis Boring, a seasoned veteran in the realm of fleet operations and administration.
Boring, who has been immersed in this industry for over three decades, comes from a robust stint at the City of Austin, where he managed an impressive fleet of more than 7,000 vehicles and equipment for over 12 years. Under his watch, Austin's fleet secured a ranking as the 10th largest municipal fleet in the nation. Throughout the years, Boring's tenure has navigated the seas of fleet operations, making fruitful contributions to acquisitions, vehicle services, and the exploration of emerging technologies. A previous tenure in the City of Dallas also saw him earn his stripes as an ISO Internal Auditor, overseeing safety, environmental, and quality standards, according to a Garland city announcement.
But Boring's skill set extends beyond the domain of routine management. His leadership qualities shone during a time of crisis when, amid the tumultuous waves of the 2020 pandemic, he was appointed as Chief of Logistics for Austin/Travis County. In this critical role, he coordinated staffing and the procurement of PPE, established testing and vaccination sites, and crafted temporary housing operations in collaboration with state and federal agencies.
