In an initiative to engage young minds in the mechanisms of law enforcement, Gastonia Police Detectives Huffstetler and Loftin made their way to Cramerton Middle School earlier last week. Their visit, part of a broader mystery project aimed at sharpening the students' critical thinking abilities, provided a glimpse into the day-to-day life of a detective. According to a social media post by the Gastonia Police Department, the detectives' presentation allowed the students to "put their critical thinking skills to the test to solve a case of their own."
The department's support for these fledgling investigators isn't limited to the classroom, as upcoming sessions will feature additional resources to enhance the learning experience. Bringing in the heavy artillery of GPD's CSI and K-9 units, waiting to participate in future sessions, continues this educational endeavor. With the inclusion of these specialized divisions, the department hopes to lend a deeper insight into the multifaceted world of crime-scene investigation and the crucial role of working dogs in police work.
