The Gilbert Police Department is stepping up its efforts to keep roads safe with a hefty grant courtesy of the Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety. The funds, earmarked for the 2026 Federal Fiscal Year, are set to bolster GPD's ongoing campaign against traffic violations, ranging from tackling the menace of impaired driving to reining in speed demons and safeguarding those on foot and two wheels.
Heading straight for the streets, officers will now have financial backing to put in overtime on specific traffic enforcement patrols. Fund allocations include $77,000 for rooting out DUI offenders, $65,000 for catching speedsters, and a designated $6,676 for pedestrian and bicycle safety oversight. Touted as more than a monetary boost, this grant spell safer travels for residents and visitors alike in Gilbert's jurisdiction.
According to a Gilbert official release, these dollars are part and parcel of a larger strategy to enhance road safety and tap down on driving-related incidents. With targeted traffic enforcement getting green-lit by this grant, the department will have more officers patrolling troubled spots and times when infractions spike.
The town's law enforcement doesn't just get a financial shot in the arm with these grants – they reflect a continued partnership with the road safety authorities at the state level. These grants are about more than just numbers on paper; they're a commitment to keeping the asphalt arteries of Gilbert free of hazards. "All grant funds are carefully monitored and reported quarterly to GOHS to ensure transparency and accountability," the Gilbert press release assures its citizens.
